When I was a kid I loved UNO. I remember playing it every summer at my grandparents cottage and it’s a game I’ve been looking forward to playing with my sons.
The other day I was invited to #MattelGameOn, a gaming night hosted by Mattel. At the end of the night I was given the new UNO dice game and the card game Phase 10. When I got home I packed both games to take to the cottage with me so that I could play them with my family.
The rules of the UNO dice game are simple enough that after a few games my son Hunter (5) and I had it figured out. The game is fun and the dice make it interesting. I think the dice make this version of UNO a lot less intimidating (and frustrating) for younger players because unlike the card game, young players aren’t overwhealemed by the large number of cards they are forced to pick up and put down.
In the evening, my wife and I played Phase 10. If you haven’t played Phase 10, read the instructions carefully before you start. We didn’t and had to start over again after reaching an impasse. That said, Phase 10 is awesome. I haven’t had that much fun playing a card game in a while (which may be due to the fact that I was on a winning streak).
What games do you play with your kids? Tell me in the comments.
